Communication Tools - for SEN Children
We design evidence-based tactile communication tools to support SEN children with Autism, Anxiety, and learning difficulties, fostering calm and effective learning. Evidence suggests that visual learning supports an increase in confidence, helps the child to feel less frustration which can help to decrease negative behaviours.
Why Our Tools for SEN children?
More than 700,000 people in the UK are autistic, meaning over 1 in 100 people are on the autism spectrum. Figures also show there are also 1.48 million young people needing SEN/SEMH support in the UK, this is across pre-school, school and college.
Research studies on the comorbidities of autism and learning disability show that roughly 30% of autistic individuals have a formal learning disability, conversely 20% to 30% of people with a learning disability are also autistic.
Population
Research suggests the actual number of young people with Autism is higher than published figures, potentially exceeding 1.2 million in England alone.
Gender
Autism is diagnosed about 3 times more often in males than in females, though diagnostic gaps often stem from differences in how autism presents in girls. Girls are known to better mask symptoms of Autism and adapt behaviours to "blend" in with their neurotypical friends. This can often lead to higher levels of frustration and anxiety, especially around the time of puberty.
Around 1.8% of schoolchildren in England are identified as autistic, and autism is the primary need listed in over 31% of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Figures indicate that SEN provisions in schools has been under a massive financial strain. The schools White paper is encouraging a shift towards SEN children being catered for within mainstream schools.
Having access to our products can support communication both at home and at school, helping the potential transition into mainstream feel less stressful for a young person with communication difficulties, lessening anxiety around transition.
